Information for Parents
Staff
Safety is our first priority! Your children will be supervised by YMCA professionals and staff who are experienced and dedicated to providing all children with a positive camp experience. They understand children, their needs and their concerns. All staff complete a thorough orientation and are certified in CPR and first aid.
Description of Camps
These camps are for participants of all skill levels. They are not geared specifically for beginners nor advanced athletes but a broad range of abilities.
Sports Camps
All Sports Ages: 9-12
Campers learn traditional and nontraditional sports in the morning, then participate in group games and recreational activities in the afternoon.
Little Sports Ages: 6-8
Campers learn traditional and nontraditional sports in the morning, then participate in group games and recreational activities in the afternoon.
Mini Sports Ages: 4-6
Campers learn traditional and nontraditional sports in the morning, then participate in group games and recreational activities in the afternoon. This camp is offered as a half-day or full-day.
Soccer Ages: 6-12
Conducted by James Bede (a former professional player in France) and his International Soccer Academy staff, campers learn proper techniques and sound fundamentals.
Basketball Ages: 6-12
Participants learn the proper technique of shooting, dribbling, rebounding and passing through daily skills sessions. Campers are placed on teams of five and will play games daily.
Lacrosse Ages: 6-12
Campers learn and practice fundamentals of the game and team concepts. No prior lacrosse experience or equipment is necessary.
Baseball Ages: 6-12
The proper techniques of throwing, catching, and hitting are taught in a fun and positive environment. Campers practice drills that reinforce the techniques and play games each day.
Flag Football Ages: 6-12
Campers have an opportunity to learn and enjoy a traditional sport in a safe environment. Participants learn the fundamentals of passing, catching, route running, de-flagging, plus offensive and defensive strategies.
Tennis Ages: 6-12
This camp will take place offsite at tennis courts in Watertown or Newton (specific courts TBA). Participants develop stroke consistency and technique, learn about tennis conditioning, and discuss latest trends in tennis. Each day participants will take part in skill building games and drills and play simulated matches. Tennis camp is a half-day camp, and parents will need to drop-off and pick-up their children from the tennis courts. A limited number of campers may register for a full-day; those campers will be brought to the YMCA for an afternoon of free swim and games with the All Sports campers.
Golf Ages: 8-13
Golf camp will include small group instruction in various aspects of the game with a Titleist Certified Golf Fitness Instructor. Camp will include 2D swing analysis, trips to the driving range and/or golf course. This program will benefit golfers of varying ages, abilities and fitness levels.
Krafty Kids Ages: 6-9
Campers will spend part their day making a variety of arts and craft projects then part of their day in a dance clinic learning steps and a mini routine.
Facilities
Camp Pikati is held at the West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA. We use the 10,000 square foot gymnasium, the artificial turf field and 4-lane 250-meter synthetic track outside, 32 foot climbing wall, 25-yard indoor pool and teen center.
Days and Hours
Camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm. Daily camper care is available for an additional fee from 8:00-9:00am and/or 4:00-6:00pm.

*Week 1 is four days, Tuesday-Friday. Fees will be prorated in the event of snow days called by Newton Public Schools.

**You can purchase a youth membership for your child for $120 for the year and benefit from cheaper camp fees as well as a variety of other programs throughout the year.
YMCA Recession Pledge
At the West Suburban YMCA, we have been caring for our community for 132 years, in both good times and bad. While no one can predict tomorrow, we can help you feel safe and secure.
If you register for one of our YMCA camps and you lose your job, we will refund 100% of your deposit, program or registration fee that you have paid to us. We can also help supplement your YMCA fees until you get back on your feet.***

Financial Aid
A limited number of partial camp scholarships were made possible by our annual Partners with Youth campaign. The application deadline was March 1st. Families are notified by April 1st. Child Care Resource Center Vouchers
A limited number of CCRC vouchers are accepted. Requests are due no later than March 1st.
Registration
Camper registration is currently open. Please click here to register.
Campers applying for financial aid need to apply between January 15th-March 1st using the appropriate form.
We will NOT be mailing out paper registration packets this year, unless you specifically call or email us to request a packet in the mail.
In order to register for camp, your child must have a current--both at time of registration and throughout camp--West Suburban YMCA membership.
Camper Care
Extended camper care is available on a daily basis from 8:00-9:00am and/or 4:00-6:00pm.
