Information for Campers

You are visiting this page because either you are SO excited that you are already signed up to be a part of the fun this coming summer at "the best place on earth" or because your parents are forcing you to attend Camp Chickami this summer.  The good news is Camp Chickami represents your ticket to friendships and fun this summer!  Unlike school (where you are told you have to take math, science and reading), every afternoon at Camp Chickami you can choose what YOU want to do!  Here are some things to help get you and keep you excited about this summer:

Fun Things You Can Do at Camp:

Nature: catching frogs, splashing in the creek, collecting leaves, getting dirty at Mud City (really, you can play in the mud!)

Arts & Crafts: painting, gimp, tye-dye, crafts

Drama: skits, songs, comedy sessions

Campsite Building: making forts, using things from the woods to "make" furniture

Low Ropes: walk a tight rope like a circus performer, get through a "spider web" (a giant fake one!) without getting stuck

Challenge Course: fly like a squirrel, climb a giant ladder, jump from high up in the trees (don't worry, you will be connected to a giant rope so you won't fall and you'll be wearing a helmet)

Archery: using a bow and arrow to hit a bull's eye

Sports: basketball, table tennis, soccer, ultimate frisbee, flag football, whiffle ball (we even have a league each session)

Games: tetherball, cards, knock hockey, speedball, frisbee golf, blob tag, ultimate sneeker

Swimming: swim lessons (where we make learning and safety fun!), free swim to splash around with your friends

Relevio: a giant game of group hide-and-go-seek tag

Special Events: Color War, Gold Rush, Wacky Olympics, Boston Sports

Overnights: where you get a chance to participate in themed activities/games and spend the night at either Camp Chickami or Camp Frank A. Day (the YMCA's resident camp) with your friends

AND SO MANY MORE SURPRISES THAT YOU'LL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!

A "Normal" Day at Camp

First, there is no such thing as a normal day at Camp Chickami.  We don't even call bathrooms "bathrooms."  They are called "the Ritzes."  Even the staff aren't normal.  They love to invent wacky and weird new games everyday!  But let's face it, if you are going to spend a week or two or three or more at camp, you want to know what you will be doing.

8:45 - 9:00      You and your friends arrive by bus or car

9:00 - 9:30      Campers cheer, sing and watch the staff perform skits to announce the day's activities during our an assembly

9:30 - 10:15     1st fun camp activity with your group (example: campsite building)

10:15 - 11:00   2nd fun camp activity with your group (example: swim lessons)

11:00 - 11:45   3rd fun camp activity with your group (example: soccer)

11:45 - 12:30   4th fun camp activity with your group (example: arts & crafts)

12:30 - 1:00    Time to eat lunch, hang out with the friends in your group and sign up for your afternoon activities

1:00 - 1:50      You pick the activity of your choice (example: free swim)

1:50 - 2:40      You pick the activity of your choice (example: 4 square)

2:40 - 3:30      You pick the activity of your choice (example: wacky relays)

3:30 - 3:45      The whole camp gathers to share the fun announcements from the day

3:45 - 4:00      Time to say good-bye until tomorrow

Camp Song

Camp Chickami is so special that it has its own song.  You can practice singing it before you come.  It is sung to the tune of "California [Here We Come]," and the words are below:

Camp Chickami here we come

Right back where we started from

The campers the counselors all join in the fun

There's hiking and swimming all under the sun

There's lots to do so don't be late

That's why we can hardly wait

There's lots of fun and friends in store

Camp Chickami forever more!
