Kevin Youkilis, first baseman for the Boston Red Sox, recently announced that his Kevin Youkilis Hits for Kids charitable organization has teamed up with the West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA to send 20 deserving kids to overnight camp this summer.
"There are so many children that have never had the opportunity to experience ‘The Great Outdoors,'" said Youkilis. "With the help of the West Suburban YMCA, we will give 20 of these kids the opportunity to spend two weeks at the amazing Camp Frank A. Day in Central Massachusetts."
Camp Frank A. Day is the West Suburban YMCA's resident camp in East Brookfield, MA. Located on 52 acres on beautiful Lake Quacumquasit (near Old Sturbridge Village), Camp Frank A. Day serves boys and girls ages seven to 15 years old. The camp boasts 1,000 feet of shoreline and features first rate facilities like an arts and crafts center, basketball and tennis courts, athletic fields, and much more.
"We are honored that Kevin Youkilis has chosen to partner with our YMCA," said Pat Palmer, West Suburban YMCA CEO & President. "Camp Frank A. Day has served kids since 1916 encouraging the physical and emotional growth of thousands of young boys and girls. Campers build self confidence, learn new skills, and gain a sense of independence. It is a positive experience that they will carry with them for their lifetimes."
There will be 20 two-week scholarships available to Camp Frank A. Day, offered to children in Greater Boston who have never had an overnight camp adventure and have an expressed financial need.
