West Suburban YMCA Presents Youth Award to Local Newton Student

This year’s recipient of the Stephen P. Annesi Youth Award was 12-year old Marlon Rainville of Newton. He has demonstrated the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility and has proven to be an outstanding athlete who exemplifies the phrase “good sport”.  “Marlon has grown up at the West Suburban YMCA and we are proud to have him as part of our family”, said Pat Palmer, CEO and President of the West Suburban YMCA.  Marlon has been attending the Live Y’ers After School program since kindergarten and has shown honesty and responsibility through his commitment to his homework and the YMCA.

This Award honors Stephen Annesi who died in a car accident at the age of 26 in 1983. He excelled as a gymnastics instructor at the YMCA and epitomized the Y’s mantra – strong spirit, strong mind and strong body. Every year, the YMCA staff chooses a recipient between 10 and 17 years old who exemplifies this mantra, but who also respects and honors his peers.
