YMCA Mourns Longtime Friend and Member

Longtime YMCA member and supporter Cooper Eastman passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2006. His warm smile and gentlemanly manner brought joy to all of our YMCA members and staff. Cooper’s generous spirit, vitality and commitment to our organization will be sorely missed.

Cooper was a lifetime YMCA member and swam everyday up to a few months before his death. For many years, he served on our Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees. We will not forget the hard work or contributions he made as a member of our Board of Directors and our Board of Trustees.

Cooper was born and educated in Newton. He graduated from Harvard University in 1949 and received his MBA from Northeastern University. Cooper served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon returning from the war, he worked for most of his professional career as an Investment Salesman for Tucker Anthony and R.L. Day. He retired in 1995. Cooper’s wife, Bertha, of 56 years still resides in Newton. Together they raised two children, Cooper, Jr. and Dale (Eastman) Acker. He had three grandsons and one great granddaughter.

The family requested that those wishing to do so may make a donation in Cooper’s memory to the West Suburban YMCA, 276 Church Street, Newton, MA 02458.
