Membership Policies & Info

We are a family organization that values personal responsibility, honesty, caring, mutual respect and non-violence. Our members subscribe to our policies and are expected to abide by our rules.

  • Membership cards must be carried at all times and presented at each visit. Allowing someone else to use your card will subject you to loss of privileges. 
  • Membership renewals are due on the expiration date. 
  • Parents are responsible for the supervision of their children while using our facilities unless the children are enrolled in a scheduled, supervised activity. Parents are expected to help enforce YMCA rules. 
  • We reserve the right to cancel any program that fails to meet minimum enrollment requirements. Schedules and rates are subject to change. 
  • Program fees must be paid upon registration. 
  • Reservations for racquetball courts may be made in advance. Only two reservations may be made at a time. 
  • The West Suburban YMCA reserves the right to take pictures/video of its participants for brochures/publications/web site and other marketing purposes. If you would prefer not to be photographed, please stop by the Front Desk and let us know in writing. 
  • Personal Training is a member service, outside trainers are not allowed in the facility.
  • Neither health nor accident insurance is included in membership or program fees. 
  • Teens ages 7-13 are required to take a fitness center orientation prior to using the Youth Fitness Center. 
  • Not following YMCA policies & procedures is grounds for membership termination without refund.

Membership Freeze
Leaving town or injured? Freeze your account for a minimum of 30 days and up to three months. If you are injured or ill and need more than three months, just bring us a doctor's note and we will extend your freeze. Thirty days written notice is required.

A.W.A.Y. Program
You are Always Welcome at YMCAs -- even when you're away from home! Use another YMCA by presenting your membership card. Each YMCA has its own AWAY fee policy. (We charge $5 per day for members of other YMCAs). Call or see one of our member services representatives to find a YMCA near your travel destination.

Tours and Membership Orientation
Tour our facilites and learn more about our programs anytime during our regular hours. After you join, schedule your appointment with our fitness staff for your mandatory, free one-hour orientation to our fitness center. All new members may schedule a free wellness assessment as well. 

Membership Cards
ID cards are issued to all new members (ages 12 and up). Your card must be presented for entry to our Y. Replacement cards cost $10.

Mission Statement:

The West Suburban YMCA, located in Newton, Massachusetts, is a nonprofit community service organization made possible because of charitable donations, member support, and dedicated volunteers. The YMCA is devoted to the education, physical health, mental well-being and moral development of children, families, and communities and is committed to this simple policy: Nobody will be turned away from our programs and facilities due to an inability to pay. The Y strives to incorporate all its programs with the core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility.
